Rehearsing Dropped Jeep

Rehearsing for a real world mission back in 1980 while assigned to  the 1st Bn. 75th Rangers. Thank God it was canceled, this jeep was on loan to us from the 82d Airborne Division and was a sorry piece of s---!

No, not the same jeep or unit. But have ya ever wondered what would happen to a ¼ ton jeep if it was air dropped from a C-130 Hercules at 1000 feet and the  parachute failed to open? 1986 Grafenwohr, Germany " 3rd Bn. 325th ABCT

Parachute Drop

DMZ Patrol

One-thousand...two-thousand...three-thousand... Thank you dear Lord  for another safe parachute jump! (Hmmm, I can't seem to remember what year or unit this was...)

My DMZ patrol members back in 1980-81. Believe it or  not, for a bunch of non-Airborne/Ranger qualified guys, this was the best squad I have  ever trained and lead. Republic of Korea " 1st Bn 31st Inf. (Mech).

Cold Weather DMZ Duty

My Airborne Cold Weather Cadre back in 1983 being trained on how to  "teach others" the art of cold weather survival. For forty days we trained like  hell and forty nights we drank like....Italy - 4th Bn 325th ABCT.

Some of my platoon members before moving out to perform our 90 days of DMZ duty. Our battalion's motto was "The Damn Die Hard!" And our company's  motto was "The Wild Bunch!" Can ya guess why? Republic of Korea" 1st Bn 31st  Inf. (Mech)

Rangers Drill Instructor

Some of my Ranger Anti-Tank Platoon members back in 1979. They were  known as the "Battalion Blacksheep" because almost none of them possessed an 11B (Infantry) or 11H (Anti-Tank) MOS. Not to mention, they were always getting in trouble in their off duty time too. HAAF/Ft.Stewart"1st Bn 75th Infantry (Rangers)

Here I am as a very young Drill Instructor stationed  at Ft. Dix, NJ back in 1977. Nope, I didn't volunteer for it, got selected by the Department of the Army. The other DIs use to call me "Baby Drill" because I was only 22 years old, just promoted to Staff Sergeant/E-6, and had less than 5 years in the Army.

Europe Sergeant First Class

Here I am in 1975 assigned to the only US Army Airborne Recon Platoon in Europe. It was the best platoon I have ever been assigned to, we were  more like "family & brothers" than fellow soldiers & co-workers. A  terrific group of guys! Italy 1st Bn 509th ABCT

As a newly promoted Sergeant First Class/E-7, this was my first assignment and challenge as a new platoon sergeant. And before I arrived, this unit was considered "the worst platoon" in the battalion. But after the platoon  leader got "sacked" and I was allowed to "shit can" a couple of his  followers, some NCOs. It wasn't long before we went from being the worst to one of the best platoons in the battalion. Here we are graduating "1st Place" from the 10th  Special Forces Platoon Confidence Training Course.
